Bulk vs bags
Landscaping materials are sold by the cubic yard (or by the ton) in bulk, or in small bags at garden centers. Once you need more than about one cubic yard, bulk delivery is usually much cheaper.
Depth is everything
The depth you choose has the biggest effect on the quantity. One cubic yard of mulch covers 162 sq ft at 2 inches but only 81 sq ft at 4 inches — so pick the depth for your project before you order.
