How this calculator works

Each brick plus its mortar joint takes up a fixed area of wall. With a standard 3/8 inch joint, a modular brick occupies 8 × 2⅔ inches, so it takes 6.75 bricks to cover one square foot.

The wall area (length × height, minus doors and windows) is multiplied by the bricks per square foot for the size you choose.

An extra percentage covers broken bricks and cuts. The result assumes a single-wythe wall (one brick thick); double it for a double-wythe wall.

Example: a 20 × 8 ft wall in modular brick

  1. Wall area: 20 × 8 = 160 sq ft.
  2. Bricks: 160 × 6.75 = 1,080 bricks.
  3. Add 5% for breakage: 1,134 bricks.

Tips before you buy

  • Order all your bricks at once — color can vary between production runs.
  • Brick sizes vary by manufacturer. If your brick is a different size, check its coverage per square foot on the spec sheet.
  • Structural brick walls need footings and may need permits; check local building codes.
